Mike Caudill Quartet Feat. Jerry Sabatini at Lilypad
The Mike Caudill Quartet makes its way to the Lilypad on May 21 for two sets of original compositions and arrangements. The first set will focus on works composed by members of the quartet, and the second set will feature arrangements of songs from the classic Gerry Mulligan Quartet recordings.
Mike Caudill is a Boston-based saxophonist and composer who has performed with iconic figures like Sean Jones, Randy Brecker, Dick Oatts, Dave Liebman, Sheila Jordan, and Karrin Allyson, as well as groups like the acclaimed alternative rock group, “10,000 Maniacs.” Influenced deeply by the jazz tradition, Mike also cites rock, folk, and classical genres among his inspirations, and his arrangements reflect these varied interests.
Mike holds a degree in Jazz Arranging and Composition from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He currently writes for and performs with groups across New England, and his compositions have received recognition from several groups including ASCAP’s Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer program and the 360 Degree Jazz Initiative at UNC Chapel Hill.
Trumpeter and composer, Jerry Sabatini, performs with and writes for bands throughout Boston and New England.
Jerry is the founder of the jazz septet, Sonic Explorers, which he currently leads, performs with, and acts as musical director. The group’s sound encompasses a wide range of instrumental styles, including traditional to modern jazz, funk, rock, avant-garde, and experimental music, as well as Eastern European, Asian folk, and classical music traditions. Jerry and the Sonic Explorers have released four independent CDs (Birth of The Kakalla – 1996; Beatnik Oblivion – 1998; So Far, So Near – 2002; Lore of The Land – 2007, all on their label, NadaBrahma Records). In 2007, Jerry was recognized as a finalist in the Massachusetts Cultural Commission’s Music Composition Awards where he featured three works from Lore of the Land. Sonic Explorers can be heard performing in festivals, clubs, concert halls, and on the radio across the east coast.
